Free Home Inspections
The Florida Comprehensive Hurricane Damage Mitigation Program, usually referred to as “The Program”, was formed by the Florida Legislature in 2006 through endorsement of Section 215.5586 , of the Florida Statutes. The Legislature made the Florida Department of Financial Services accountable for implementation of the program.
The Department produced a website, www.mysafefloridahome.com, which offers information to homeowners and additional interested persons regarding the program.
In order to determine eligibility homeowners must follow procedures for acquiring the free home inspections. The homeowners is required to first take the eligibility survey, which is accessible in the Florida Homeowner’s Guide to Free Home Inspections (Booklet 829-B) and on the Program’s website.
There are more than a few avenues for homeowners to apply for a free inspection. The Department suggests homeowners utilize the internet to apply online if they have that possibility offered to them. If the homeowner is hesitant to use the website or if he or she does not have internet access, they may apply via telephone or mail. Homeowners may call the Department toll free at 1-800-342-2762 to apply for the free inspection. Department staff will support homeowners with determining eligibility or even helping the homeowner fill out the application if necessary. Homeowners applying by telephone will be mailed their completed application for signatures, in view of the fact that original signatures are mandatory. Homeowners may request a blank application be mailed to them if they choose to fill it out themselves or a homeowner may visit a local regional office of the Department of Financial Services to complete an application by hand. Completed applications for the free home inspection must be mailed to the following address:
